Choose 'n' Move is Kirklees Council's way of allocating social housing within the district. It is a choice based lettings system, which means that you choose the properties that you are interested in.
Properties are advertised in weekly cycles (Wednesday to Sunday) and you can choose up to three properties in each cycle. When you apply to become a member (join the housing register) your application will be assessed by a member of staff and you will be informed about what type of property you can bid on.
Applications are also given a band, A, B, C, D or E. Your band will be awarded based on your needs.
We want to provide residents with the right information about timelines. We often advertise properties while they are still occupied, which means you get an early opportunity to bid. After the previous tenants leaves, our repairs team step in to ensure the new home meets our Lettable Standards. On average, from the moment you bid on a property to the time you're moving in, it takes roughly two to three months. We appreciate your patience during this process as we work to prepare your future home.
All you have to do is complete the online housing register form. As long as you are eligible to live and work in the UK, are resident in the UK and you are over 16 you can apply.
There are some further conditions to this Check our. housing allocations policy for more detail.
If we have all the information we need, we aim to have your application ready to go within 6 working days. Your registration letter will contain details of your bidding number, the size of property (no of bedrooms) you can bid on and what band you have been given.
Choose 'n' Move can also give you personalised housing advice. Click on the Housing Action Plan to start a quick assessment. From the answers you give, a tailored plan will be produced giving you a number of options to help you with your housing issues.
